A spokeswoman for the Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities (BOPU) says the utility's payment drop box at 2416 Snyder was vandalized and the contents were stolen early this (Wednesday) morning.

Dena Egenhoff says anyone who dropped off a payment or account information in the box between 8 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11 and 4 a.m. today (October 12) should call the BOPU for alternative payment arrangements at (307) 637-6460.

Anyone who left a check in the box for a payment should also immediately stop payment on the check. Ann Lucas of First Education Federal Credit Union in Cheyenne says anyone who may have had a check stolen should also keep a close eye on their checking account in case the thieves use the stolen check as a model for counterfeiting.

Egenhoff says the Cheyenne Police Department has been notified and is investigating the theft. Anyone who may have information on the theft is being asked to call the department at (307) 637-6500.
