Charles DeRoy Smith Sr. went home to be with his Heavenly Father on February 22, 2013. He was born in Rock Springs, WY to Catherine M. (Wardle) and Reynold C. Smith on March 6, 1928.

The family moved to Casper in 1934. He attended Casper schools and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1948. He also graduated from Casper College in 1964.

Charles married the love of his life Edith Elizabeth Zerfass on June 7, 1947. They had four children. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge he went to work at the Texaco Refinery and retired after 37 years which included 2 years in Baton Rouge, LA after the Casper plant closed. He then began his second career as a CATC bus driver for almost 15 years retiring for good in 1999.

Charles enjoyed camping with his family, gardening, traveling with Edith, spending time with his grand children and great grandchildren and most recently spending the evening with a search a word book.

He is survived by his wife of almost 66 years, a son Charles D. Smith, Jr. (Connie) of Casper, daughters Kim Jones (Alan) of Torrington, WY, Autumn Kiernan (Wade) of Billings, MT, eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Melvin Smith, sisters, Donna Smith, Shirley Smith, Cathy Kearns, Darlene Stout, Verna Johnson, a son Randy Smith and a niece Sabrina Johnson.

Services will be held on Wednesday February 27, at 11:00 a.m. at the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO BOX 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312. 

A viewing will be held on Tuesday February 26, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Newcomers Funeral home.
