It’s on holidays like the Fourth of July that I’m reminded of a lot of things. I’m reminded how lucky I am to live in the country that I do, how lucky I am to have the freedom I do, and how lucky I am to be a part of the community that I am. Every year the Casper Events Center hosts the Fireworks Festival and it features a wide-array of vendors, food, music and, of course, people. Check out these pics of the Fireworks Festival 2012.

Which is why we look forward to NicFest every year. The number of people, vendors, and wonderful kinds of food and drink that we get to experience makes us look forward to every Casper summer. Day 2 of the 2012 Downtown Throwdown saw many things. It saw heroic feats of strength, incredible demonstrations of agility and endurance, and yes, winners being crowned. Casper saw many of it's fire stations move on to the national competition that will take place later in the year, but all of the men and women that competed over the weekend proved that, if we're ever in danger, we'll be in good hands. Casper is a lot of things, but a "big city" is not one of them. Because of this, we miss out on a lot of 'festivals' and what-not that most big cities have. We've got Beartrap Summer Festival, and NicFest. The good news is, both of these events rock and remind me exactly how much I love living in our humble city. As a man, nothing makes me feel like less than...um...a man than by watching firemen run, climb, lift, and more. So imagine how effeminate I feel whilst watching the Downtown Throwdown. Firefighters from all over came to Casper to demonstrate who exactly is the alpha-male.
