Casper residents can soon report some crimes online without going to the police station.

The Casper Police Department is making an addition to the city's website, so that residents can report various crimes such as civil matters, property destruction, and theft of less than one-thousand dollars online.

Residents can file and print a crime report online, or go to a kiosk that will be set up in the police department lobby.

Victims of harsher crimes such as burglary, or assault, will not be allowed to file a report on line and instead will be asked to see an officer directly.

The department says this will help save on man-hours and they hope to have the new feature available by Tuesday afternoon,  June 12th.

The idea came from the police department in Reno, Nevada where about ten-to-fifteen percent of their crimes have been reported online.
