A Casper man who initially pleaded not guilty to an assault charge after a fight with his then-girlfriend changed his plea in Natrona County District Court on Friday.

Roger Johnson faces 18 to 24 months behind bars at the Wyoming State Penitentiary after entering a no contest plea to an assault charge in a deal with prosecutors. It was Johnson’s third separate assault charge.

Two related charges were dropped.

Prosecutors say, in mid-June, Johnson assaulted his then-girlfriend by grabbing her neck and pushing her into a mirror. Johnson then, per investigators, ordered the woman to drive him to Cheyenne.

Johnson’s arrest history includes multiple false imprisonment convictions.

Johnson's bond was continued. Sentencing will be set for a later date.
