Despite less dry conditions in Wyoming, officials with Casper Fire-EMS are reminding residents about outdoor burning guidelines this spring and summer.

Jason Parks, who’s with Casper Fire-EMS, says it’s best to keep a safe distance when operating a burn ring.

“Have it out in the middle of your yard, keep it away from any trees, kids, toys, stuff like that – just keep it out in the middle of the yard where nothing gets close to it,” Parks said.

Parks says, if any outdoor fire gets out of control, it’s always best to call 911.

“Do not attempt to put the fire out,” Parks said. “Call 911 right away – we’re within four minutes of anywhere in town – and just don’t get yourself in trouble or get yourself burned.”

Parks also says that it’s best to keep an eye on local weather conditions. Outdoor burning isn’t typically allowed when the National Weather Service issues red flag warnings.
