A Casper man is in custody after prosecutors say he threatened his girlfriend with a stolen handgun.

33-year-old Lucas Afinson was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated burglary early Friday morning. Afinson was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.

According to court documents, Afinson’s girlfriend, Echo Disney, found Afinson passed out on the floor of the couple’s apartment late Thursday night – Disney told officers that she and Afinson had encountered relationship difficulties prior to the incident and had asked for Afinson to leave.

Disney said that, at around midnight Friday, she found Afinson passed out again in the garage of a next-door neighbor clutching a handgun. Disney said that, after waking Afinson again, Afinson pointed the handgun at her and said, “Do you need a more technical reason for me to go to jail?”

Disney alleges that Afinson wanted to go to jail to get sober.

During the investigation, officers discovered that the handgun was stolen from a Bar Nunn man that hired Afinson's company to paint a residence. Investigators also found drug paraphernalia and marijuana in a backpack believed to have been owned by Afinson.

Afinson is being held at the Natrona County Detention Center on $15,000 bond. A preliminary hearing will be held at a later date.
