A Mills woman will avoid prison time after admitting to embezzling from an organization that she was the treasurer of.

Casey Whiteman was given first time offenders' status and was placed on one-to-five years of probation, after she pleaded guilty to one charge of theft.

Investigators with the Natrona County Sheriff's Office say in August 2015, the president of the Wyoming Fiddlers' Association District #4, was informed that a check had bounced and she knew there should have been sufficient funds at the time.

When Whiteman was contacted, she admitted to taking money out of the Association's account, for her own personal use.

She told investigators that she did not have the means to keep up with her bills and since she had access to the Association account, she could maintain her lifestyle.

It was later determined that she took more than $10,000, between October 2014 and September 2015.

At her sentencing hearing, members of the WFA mentioned that restitution had been paid in full, and they were in support of the sentence.

If Whiteman completes her probation, the guilty conviction will be cleared from her criminal record.
