LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — The University of Wyoming has a new director for its Social Justice Research Center.

Kate Muir Welsh is a faculty member in the UW College of Education.

The justice center was started in 2007 through an endowment fund from an anonymous donor.

The Laramie Boomerang reports ( HYPERLINK "http://bit.ly/H1AJyr" ) that Welsh traces her passion for both public education and social justice to the influence of her family.

Growing up with a brother with autism, she watched her mother fight to make sure all students had access to public education.

The center is dedicated to promoting scholarship among faculty, staff and students that has a social justice focus. It provides grants to fund such research as well as a location on campus where people can connect and find support.
