A Buffalo man walking on a road east of Gillette was killed by a passing motorist early Wednesday morning, according to a news release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Michael P. Sullivan, 39, was walking on Wyoming Highway 51 near mile post 141 at 2:26 a.m. when he was struck by a car driven by Jack R. Wanada of Rozet, according to the news release from Patrol Sgt. David Wagener.
Sullivan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alcohol use is being investigated as a contributing factor in this crash, which temporarily closed the highway.

Wanada, 63, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and taken to the Campbell County Detention Center in Gillette. Additional charges are pending.

Sullivan is projected to be the 52nd highway fatality in Wyoming for 2015. There were 53 fatalities during this time period in 2014.
