The legal battle between businessman and former City Council member Craig Hedquist and the city of Casper is over for now. More specifically, the battle involved former City Manager John Patterson.

Friday afternoon, Federal Judge Alan Johnson cut short the plans for a June trial start date by deciding the case himself. Hedquist’s lawsuit alleging city officials conspired against both his political ambitions and future city contracts for his construction company, was dismissed.

Hedquist represented Ward 2 on the Council, and resigned under pressure in 2015.

Ironically, this came after the same judge had ruled for Hedquist just last month, and said the trial should proceed.

Hedquist and his legal team have the right to proceed with an appeal, but must do so in a month.

A separate lawsuit against former Police Chief Chris Walsh continues.
