"Bless Me, Ultima" hits the Gryphon Theatre May 5th.

"Bless Me, Ultima" which is based on the novel by Rudalfo Anaya is the slice of life and coming of age story of Antonio Marez growing up in New Mexico during World War II. Marez's life changes when a mysterious herb doctor named Ultima comes to live with his family and teaches him about the power of the spiritual world. As their bond grows together, Marez starts to question his parent's strict Catholic beliefs as more and more life changing events occur and struggles to figure out what his destiny will be going forward. The film is written and directed by Carl Franklin.

Connie Coca, one of the directors on the board of this production says "Rodolfo Anaya in my eyes is the founder of Chicano Literature. "Bless Me Ultima" Anayas' novel, was once banded from schools, now in film, is a  tribute to the author, film makers and the population it represents."

The show is on May 5th at 7 p.m. with the doors opening at 6 p.m. Coca says there will be beer, wine, tamales, and enchiladas for sale in front of the theatre when the door opens at 6 p.m. A cash bar service is available as well. Tickets are $5.00 per person and can be purchased through the Gryphon Theatre Box Office or online at gryphontheatre.org.
