Cheyenne residents are being warned to be on the lookout for a black bear that was spotted in the area just south of town on Monday.

Warden Dillon Herman of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department says the bear was originally seen in the area of the McDonald's restaurant near the Flying J Truck Stop. From there game wardens tracked the bear to the Swan Ranch and then to the Wyoming Travel and Tourism rest area.

Herman says the bear then crossed Interstate 25 into property owned by the Schlumberger Oilfield Services Company. Wardens tried to shoot the bear with a tranquilizing dart gun but missed. He says the bear then fled the area towards the west.

He also says there is no way to make sure the bear won't return, so anyone who sees it is being asked to call 1-877-WGFD-TIP.
