Rashal Williams was first in line for Wednesday’s auditions at the Fort Caspar Museum for the hit FOX TV show, “American Idol.”

She arrived at 2:30 a.m., about five-and-a-half hours before producers started giving auditions. She said she was excited, but nervous, as were the hundreds in line behind her.

Norm Betts, a senior producer for the television show, has been with “Idol” for several years, and said first impressions make a huge impact. He said they are looking for talent that has a special sound, is interesting, something they’ve never heard before, and being surprised.

Casper was the 3rd stop in the “American Idol” bus tour of small towns. It’s not known how many people at Wednesday’s audition will make it to the next round, but the crowd seemed to be enjoying their time in line, practicing their songs, and breaking out in impromptu medleys with those standing next to them.

The 12th season of “American Idol” is scheduled to begin in January of 2013.
