A special benefit sale of paintings by the late John F. Welsh is coming up April 3rd. It happens at the West Wind Gallery with proceeds going to the John Welsh Memorial Fund.

"This is essentially our last chance to buy some of his works and, because of that, we're trying to get the word out, because we know there were so many people in Casper who cared very much about John."

West Wind Gallery Board Member, Ann Tollefson, says many people don't realize that John F. Welsh, renowned as a theatre director, was also a two dimensional artist. Tollefson describes his paintings as colorful, abstract and rich. 60 works will be on sale in April starting with the silent auction opening night.

"For the reception and the early bird show on Sunday, there's an admission of 25 dollars. We'll have a cash bar, with  light hors d'oeuvres and we'll have a silent auction of 10 of John's works."

Works that are purchased that night go home with the buyer, Tollefson says, with remaining pieces on display and available for sale through the rest of the month. So if you want to see the entire show you'll need to show up that night.

Proceeds from the sale  go towards the arts in Natrona County, but, Tollefson says they also want to start a building fund in hopes of eventually relocating the gallery.

"Its not the best location and it doesn't really allow us to offer some of the exciting things that we'd like to see happen in the arts community in Casper; a place where people can come and see artists in residence, buy art, and just make a really happening place in Casper for the arts.

The West Wind Gallery is located at 1040 West 15th. The opening and silent auction on April 3rd runs from 3 to 5pm.
