Arraignment Set For Man Charged In Cody Abduction

CODY, Wyo. (AP) — A Montana man charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl from Cody is set for arraignment in district court later this month.

Jesse P. Speer is being held at the Park County Detention Center on charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault and using a gun in the commission of a felony. He's set for arraignment Dec. 21 before District Judge Steven Cranfill in Cody.

Speer last month waived a preliminary hearing, sending his case straight to district court.

Authorities arrested Speer in Montana in October, almost a week after the girl was abducted. She was driven out of town, sexually assaulted and then released.

Court records filed in Montana state Speer told arresting officers that he abducted and assaulted the girl.
