Arapaho Fire Update – Tuesday July 3rd

Heat exhaustion, smoke and poor visibility, narrow dirt roads and animals on those road are all safety concerns facing firefighters working the Arapaho fire northwest of Wheatland. That fire has grown to about 88,000 acres.

Fire spokesman, Jim Whittington, says the fire is about 25-percent contained with an undetermined number of structures burned.

There will be a public meeting tonight at 6:30pm at the Douglas Middle School in Douglas. It will be broadcast liveĀ  on 100.1 FM.

Yesterday, Wyoming Governor, Matt Mead, visited the fire and received a briefing from fire officials and toured a portion of the fire which he described as enormous in scope. He says the national fire teams are impressed with the work of local firefighters.

“The guy in charge of it says he’s done this all over the country and he wanted to express to me how hard our county and state people are working and how cooperative they’ve been. He says that’s not always the case. He says we’ve got a very good cooperative effort out there which was encouraging to me.”

According to a release on INCIweb a county assessor is making assessments to damaged property in the fire area and a hotline is being set up for property owners in Platte, Albany and Converse Counties to call. The number is 307-322-6590.
