If you're looking to get in the Halloween mood, Stage III Community Theatre has just the thing for you.  “An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe” by Robert Mason and Albert T. Viola brings four spine-tingling tales from the original master of the horror story to life on the stage.

The production is directed by Brandon Paad, assisted by Kris Kontour. “Before Stephen King, before Tim Burton, there was Poe, "says Paad. "I wanted to show today’s audience the value of psychological horror.  The ways in which we can be frightened without  the traditional scare tactics of blood and guts.  For nothing is more terrifying than our own minds.”

From Stage III:

"The large cast includes a number of Stage III veterans as well as some talented newcomers, telling four Poe tales.  “The Black Cat,” is a tale in which the family pet becomes the center of obsessive behavior which leads to murder.  Gabriel Cisneros and Tom Morton are featured in “The Cask of Amontillado,” a story of carefully plotted revenge.    Dob Wallace, Scott Johnson, Tanis Lovercheck-Saunders, and Kailey McLean make up the cast of “The Tell-Tale Heart,” one of Poe’s best known stories in which a murder is committed, but the evidence will not remain quiet.  The final story in the evening is “The Raven,” performed by Ron Richard, Jeremy Patey, Teresa Petrosky Wallace and Georgia McCool; an unexpected visit from a grim bird causes a melancholy writer to grapple with mortality.  Additional readings and voices are provided by Scott Johnson and Makala McCool."

Stage III has also created a Poe-themed Escape Room, an interactive game in which groups of up to 6 players search Poe’s study for clues and try to solve a mystery before the time runs out.
