The man who allegedly robbed a bank in Evansville on Tuesday decided to surrender after law enforcement contacted his wife who then called him, according to the FBI's criminal complaint filed with U.S. District Court on Wednesday.

Kemp Cravens allegedly drove a white sport utility vehicle to the Platte Valley Bank in Evansville about 9:30 a.m., and entered the bank wearing a hooded jacket, a dark fabric covering his face, and dark sunglasses, according to the FBI's report.

He also openly carried a semi-automatic style handgun either in his waistband or in a holster

He demanded money from two tellers. As they were retrieving cash, he showed them the gun and put it back.

The tellers gave him $12,000 in cash, which he put in a bag. He got in the van and drove away.

Law enforcement later learned Cravens had rented a white SUV from a local rental dealer, obtained information, and contacted his wife.

She told officers her husband said he was traveling to Riverton that day with a friend. She then called him and told him he was a suspect in a robbery.

Cravens admitted to the robbery and told her he would surrender at an unidentified police department. The wife then told police what he told her.

Law enforcement officers soon arrested him outside Casper City Hall.

After waiving his rights verbally and in writing, Cravens admitted to robbing the bank, brandishing a loaded model 1911 handgun during the robbery, renting the SUV, and wearing the clothing described by witnesses.

After obtaining a warrant, officers searched the SUV and found the handgun and a large amount of cash.

Cravens is charged with one count of bank robbery. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years imprisonment.

A clerk at U.S. District Court in Casper said a time for his initial appearance has not been set yet.
