A Casper man is facing charges after a college professor saw him trying to break into her office.

Twenty-one year-old Alex Ascherin is charged with one count of attempted burglary and one count of property damage.

Investigators say on Thursday morning February 21st, a Casper College Professor arrived at her office in the Goodstein Library and saw someone with a screwdriver-like tool digging into the drywall near the door lock.

There was an IPad and several other computer items in plain view of the office window.

The suspect was later identified as Ascherin by another professor.

He was a former student-worker in the library, and had a warrant and three other convictions in unrelated incidents.

Ascherin denied causing the hole in the wall, claiming he was checking it out because he thought someone else had tried to break into the office.

However one employee said that Ascherin had been in the library for almost three hours prior to the time he was seen outside the office.

He is being held on $10,000 bond awaiting trial and could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
