A press release from the Natrona County School District issued Monday night contradicted what its attorney told K2Radio about the same time.

Kathleen Dixon said the investigation into a questionable skit performed by some district employees before staff and students -- leading to the suspension of the Natrona County High School principal Dean Kelly -- will be finished this week.

But she doubted it will be made public.

"To the extent that is personnel information, no," Dixon said after the district's board of trustees meeting. "Once the final report comes in, we will be able to take a look at it and determine what, if any, of the final report will be made public."

The reasons for confidentiality are legal, she said. "It is an investigation report of a personnel matter, and as a result of that I would anticipate that there will be very little that we will be able to make public based on statute."

About the same time, the district issued its press release about the skit the investigation, the trustees' review of a video of the skit Monday evening, and the report's completion this week.

"The skit transcript and video will be released upon the completion of the investigation."

The district added, "This media release is intended to inform the public while maintaining confidentiality of those elements related to personnel matters."

Monday evening, the trustees did not discuss the situation or investigation during their regular meeting, which followed a two-and-a-half hour executive session.

The investigation started Aug. 26, after a skit of questionable taste was presented to 215 staff and six members of the student council, according to the press release.

The district replaced Kelly with acting administrator Kelly Hornby.

Kelly had been the school’s principal since 2007.
He is still an employee of the district, Dixon said Monday.

The district hired longtime education attorney Tracy Copenhaver of Powell to conduct the investigation, she said.

On Tuesday afternoon, the district announced it has scheduled an executive session for 6 p.m. Monday at the Central Services building at 970 N. Glenn Road, to hold an investigative and personnel discussion with legal counsel. "Please note that this meeting is closed to the public."
