WYDOT district maintenqace engineer, Tim McGary tells us....

About 300 feet of roadway dropped 15 feet. The area is located above the road closure gate just west of the overlook at mile post 30.

Wyo 70
loading...

A section of WYO 70 east of Baggs has slid out.

WYDOT will send a team of geology experts to assess the damage and determine timing and steps to repair the road. Ongoing slides in other areas of the state may delay their arrival until later in the week.

As planned, snow removal operations on WYO 70 will begin as soon as WYO 130 is clear. It is yet undetermined if a temporary detour is possible around the destroyed section of WYO 70. If not, it is likely that the opening of the entire length of the highway will not occur for two to four months.

An alternate route from Rawlins up the mountain will be via the unpaved WYO 71 south to WYO 70.
